i'm
a primary care physician living in san francisco. i'm in private practice at 1300 south eliseo drive,
i'm
proud to be the founder of Hearing
Education and Awareness for Rockers (H.E.A.R.) along with Kathy Peck.
i've been on the national board of
directors of Doctors Ought to Care (DOC). they've been working on
banning tobacco advertising for decades, and are a pioneer at using humor to
fight the tobacco companies.
in the
past i was director of the haight
ashbury free medical clinic's
medical section,
where i spent a number of years telling folks about safe sex, among
other things.
i've also been involved in event
medicine with the haight ashbury
free clinic's rock medicine
section.
in the past, i was active in emergency medicine, serving as director of
the emergency medicine residency program at san francisco
general hospital. i did my
emergency medicine training in downtown detroit, at henry ford hospital.
i've
been writing a medical column in citybike magazine for anumber
of years: my book blood,
sweat, and gears: ramblings on
motorcycling and medicine, was a
collection of these columns. unfortunately, it's out of print at this time.
my new book is blood, sweat & 2nd gear: more medicine
for motorcyclists. it's available
from whitehorse
press or from amazon.
i've been writing a column in
motorcycle consumer® news
. it’s a lot of fun to write,
and i’m always ope

i've been online since 1980 or so, when i signed up for the source while living in boston. as far as i know, it
doesn't exist anymore (the source, not boston).
since 1985, i've been active on the Well. I've hosted the medical conference, as well as the jokes, and men on the well conferences. I founded and hosted the sailing, motorcycling, flying conferences, among others, too. click here to see my .plan file on the well.
i joined the electronic
frontier foundation when it started: in fact, i
recall e-mailing john perry barlow's piece about his visit from agent baxter
that he posted on the Well to my friend john
gilmore when it first came out. john tells me
that it helped him get hooked up with the other EFF founders: i'm proud of that.
